Addressing Others
The Vocative Particle yaa يا
The vocative particle indicates who is being addressed. When addressing someone, the word yaa يا may be used before the person's name. Therefore, if you want to say "hello" to your friend Fatima by name, instead of saying "Hello, Fatima", you could say, "Hello, yaa Fatima". If it helps, think of yaa يا as using "O" in old English.
