Speaking Practice: al-'idaafa الإضافة

Translate the following items aloud. After each item, check your translation and pronunciation against the answer provided. If you miss three items, do not continue with the exercise; rather, return to the vocabulary section, as well as the grammar sections about the al-'idaafa construction, in order to review the principles neccessary to complete this exercise with more accuracy.

To complete this exercise, you will need to be familiar with the three vocabulary words presented in Unit 2 of Alif Baa:

حَبيب  dear one (male) Would you like to learn the feminine form of this word? You may wish to familiarize yourself with the feminine form of حَبيب (lover or dear one). حَبيبة dear one (female) The difference between a male and female form of the word is the addition of a special symbol (ة) at the end of the feminine form. This symbol is usually pronounced "a" but may also be pronounced "at" when the word is the first term in an iDaafa construction. You will learn more about this symbol in Unit 5 of Alif Baa.
