Reading Exercise 2

The following map shows the dates on which the Arab countries gained their independence from foreign control in the twentieth century. Click on the map for an enlarged view. Examine the map carefully to select the option in the drop-down menu that correctly completes the statement in English. Please note that numbers follow the same sequence in Arabic as they do in English (Example, the year "nineteen forty" is written 1940 in English and ۱٩٤۰ in Arabic).
