الإضافة والصفة

1. الإضافةalso can take an adjective صفة. It is important to remember that if the last term of الإضافة is definite, the adjective must be definite as well (even though the noun it is directly modifying does not have الـ attached to it).
Examples:

my friend’s beautiful aunt

 خالة صديقي الجميلة

the tall school building

بناية المدرسة الطويلة

the cold city weather

طقس المدينة البارد

the Lebanese college students

طلاّب الجامعة اللبنانيّون

2. If an indefinite adjective follows الإضافة where المُضاف إليه or last term of الإضافة is definite,
a sentence جملة is formed. Contrast the following sentences to the phrases in the previous chart.

My friend’s aunt is beautiful.

 .خالة صديقي جميلة

The school building is tall.

 .بناية المدرسة طويلة

The city weather is cold.

 .طقس المدينة بارد

The college students are Lebanese.
